Last week, The Jorgensens spent the weekend with us in Melaka. Jacob Jorgensens is Daddy’s expatriate colleague. They stayed in Grandma’s house in Melaka. On Saturday morning, we car pooled to Melaka in a Naza van.
Shannon has never seen a blonde kid appart from TV. She kept staring at Jacob’s 2 kids Katrine, who is 6 years old and Andreas, who is 4 years old. Katrine and Shannon sat at the 2nd back of the van with Mummy while Andreas and his mummy sat at the first back seat of the van. Shannon and Katrine were really intrigue by each other. Katrine touched Shannon’s hair and skin. Shannon touched her her hair and skin too. They stared at each other for a while and later smiled.
Soon, they began to share things. Katrine offered her doll to Shannon and Shannon offered her ‘Mickey’ soft toy to Katrine. They both smiled.
It’s amazing how the kids communicate! Katrine speaks a little English and Andreas doesn’t speak English. They speak Danish. Yet, there’s a bond between them. They communicate through smiles, sharing of things and sign language.
Shannon calls Andreas kor kor (Chinese for big brother) and Katrine che che, by the next day, Katrine knows that she is reffered to as che che. When we dropped the Jorgensens at their condo, she said “this is che che’s home”.
Mummy and Daddy enjoyed hosting them. They loved Melaka. We brought them to St Paul’s Hill, The Fort, Christ Church, Clock Tower, Stadhuys. Heeren Street and Jonker Walk at night. The next day, we took them to Hutan Rekreasi and the Bee’s Farm.
We journeyed back to KL in the evening around 4.15pm and reached about 6.30pm due to the rain and jam because it was the end of the school holiday.
