Teaching Leanne to speak turned out to be easy and less challenging as she could remember without difficulty what her parents taught her. She would learn on her own by being attentive and observant to her surroundings.
Some of the words she used in her daily conversation surprised everybody. Examples:
In the car, on the way to the airport while sending daddy to Australia (27 July 2007), Grandma noticed Shannon was yawning a couple of times and asked her:
“Shannon: why are you yawning ”.
Shannon answered: “Me, not enough sleep”.
On a hot day in the living room, Shannon said to Grandma (rubbing her neck with one of her hand and speaking), “I sweating, on air-cond”.
One morning, (31 July 2007), Shannon threw Kong-kong’s (grandpa) comb on to the floor. Asked to say sorry for her action, she stubbornly refused. Later mama asked her again say sorry to kong-kong. She quietly told mama, “you say for me” (in a remorseful tone).
The main glass door of the apartment was jammed and could not be opened. While Kong Kong was trying to open the door, Shannon came with her suggestions on how to open the door. She told kong-kong: “use screw driver to open”.
Seeing that the door could not be opened using screw driver she said “use hammer to open”.
