Shannon punya pelat….
Hmmmm….really don’t know how to translate the word ‘pelat’. When toddlers first learn to talk, they can’t automatically pronounce the words clearly. The miss pronunciation of words is called ‘pelat’ in the Malay Language. 'Punya pelat' means very pelat (haha don't know whether i am making sense).
Neways, Shannon talks so much these days, and sometimes we couldn’t figure out what she is saying.
While in the car one day, Mummy, Daddy, Grandma and Atta tried to figure out what she was saying.
Shannon: cha yan shee yen
Mummy: What? What are you saying?
Shannon: cha yan shee yen
Mummy: giant see land???
Shannon: cha yan shee yen (louder)
Grandma: Jalan Silang*?
Shannon: cha yan shee yen. cha yan shee yen. cha yan shee yen (she repeated)
Daddy: It sounds more like Jalan Silang. What is there is Jalan Silang? Who brought her
there???
Shannon just repeated herself till we reached Tony Romas at Cine Leisure. She got down the car and was very happy to be at that place.
The next morning, She repeated and Grandma n Daddy heard and they said, “Ohhhh…she actually said SHANNON LEANNE. She told us her name”. She said it much clearer in the morning.
Today while paying at the counter in a pharmacy, Daddy and I tried to figure our what she was saying again. She was pointing to something excitedly and said:
Shannon: Meng* ja wer je
Mummy: What Shannon?
Shannon: MEng ja wer je (louder)
Mummy: Daddy, what is she saying?
Daddy: I don’t understand her
Shannon kept on pointing and saying “meng ja wer je”. After paying I went to her and asked “What is it that u r pointing?” She pointed at a few Meng bottles and said “meng ja wer je” again. I still can’t figure out what was saying until I read the label below which states. SHOWER GEL. Then I got it, she was trying to tell me ‘Meng Shower Gel’.
A stranger asked me, “how old is she?” “Just turned 2.” I said. “Wow, she knows SHOWER GEL.” He said. Apparently he has a son who is about Shannon’s age but doesn’t talk as much as Shannon yet. Daddy n I smiled and said we have a tough time figuring out what she is trying to say.
*Jalan Silang = A name of a street in Kuala Lumpur
* Meng= That’s how she pronounce Mickey, her favourite cartoon character and still is her favourite.
There are many more instances where we just couldn’t figure out what she was saying. Sometimes, she talks so much that we have to say “Shannon, shhhhhhh…. U talk to much la.” And she will reply “no la…” And she can really drag the “la…” If you have heard her speak, you will understand what I mean.
Dearest Sunshine,
u grow up so fast! we must pen down somewhere or all will be gone down memory lane. So, this site is for u.
